How are ‘Independent Methodists’ different from other Methodists?

Technically, we are not a denomination; we are a voluntary association of otherwise-independent congregations that are doctrinally-Methodist. Our theological approach and expression is in keeping with our Wesleyan-Arminian tradition. We do not own the property of any local church; neither do we so desire. We do not appoint pastors; rather, they are screened and credentialed by our headquarters and called by the vote of local congregations. We voluntarily support our headquarters, youth camps, retreats for a variety of ages, missions, and church planting. Our goal is neither control nor uniformity but only unity in love.

What are your basic beliefs?

Our complete Articles of Belief can be found by clicking here, but a few doctrinal matters that are foundational to our Association are

• the inerrancy of Holy Scripture, the reliably-written self-revelation of the triune God to Man,
• the full deity, virgin birth, atoning death, bodily resurrection, and imminent return of Christ,
• the personal assurance of salvation by grace through faith in Christ’s both Person and Work, and
• the biblical promise of holiness in heart and life offered by Christ through the Holy Spirit.

How are you supported?

We are supported by voluntary donations from both congregations and individuals.  We do not assess our member churches or impose financial demands upon our congregations or individuals.

How does a church join AIM?

A church may join through a process of membership which includes the submission of an application, an agreement with our articles of belief, and the making of a commitment to both participate in the life of and support the ministry of our Association.

What do you do for youth?

We hold three regional youth camps each summer as well as youth retreats each winter.  Furthermore, we assist our local churches in developing their youth programs and in securing youth ministers.

How are ministers acquired?

A minister may apply for AIM credentials through a process which includes filling out a ministerial questionnaire, participating in a ministerial inquiry, agreeing with and adhering to the Articles of Belief and Constitution of the Association of Independent Methodists.  We encourage our people to answer God’s call to ministry and then encourage them to prepare through the best training available.

Our congregations are spread throughout the following eight states:

We are at work internationally through churches being planted in Honduras and men and women serving as missionaries in Africa, Asia, and Central America.
